Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to provide essential clinical support to our outpatient surgical services department. Under the direct supervision of physicians and clinicians, you will assist with patient care, promote efficient patient flow, and ensure smooth operations within the office setting. Your role will include a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, such as assisting with exams and procedures, managing patient information, and supporting day-to-day operations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Escort & Care: Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms, ensuring a positive and efficient patient experience. 

  • Vital Data Collection: Record patient data prior to physician visits, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes. 

  • Patient Record Management: Obtain and organize all required patient records prior to treatment or procedures to ensure physicians have the necessary information. 

  • Equipment & Room Preparation: Prepare examination rooms and medical equipment, ensuring they are sterile and properly maintained. 

  • Clinical Support: Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with exams, procedures, and treatments as needed, ensuring patient comfort and safety. 

  • Venipuncture & Specimen Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection according to established protocols. Handle specimens with precision, adhering to safety and labeling standards. 

  • Injection Administration: Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated by the RN, NP, or physician. 

  • Room Disinfection & Safety: Maintain exam and treatment room cleanliness by following strict disinfection protocols. 

  • Administrative Tasks: Answer patient phone calls, schedule appointments, coordinate referrals, and manage patient communications as directed by the physician, RN or Senior MA. 

  • Prescription Management: Assist with phoning in prescriptions and coordinating medication requests, as directed by the physician or Senior MA. 

  • Schedule Management: Inform physicians about patient reschedules, no-shows, and other schedule-related changes. 

  • General Office Support: Perform other administrative duties, including typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception tasks, and assisting with other duties as requested by the physician or supervisor. 

Qualifications:

  • Language: Bilingual Haitian Creole is required. 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Certification: Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant (entry-level position). 

  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 3 months of hire. 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $18.00–$24.00 per hour

  • Physical Activity: Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting. 

  • Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. 

  • Manual Dexterity: Requires fine motor skills for tasks such as administering medications, taking vital signs, and performing wound care. 

  • Sensory Requirements: Ability to see, hear, and touch to perform job duties effectively. 

  • Exposure to Hazards: Potential exposure to infectious diseases, biohazardous materials, and chemical agents. 

  • Noise Level: Moderate noise level, often due to patient monitoring equipment and staff interactions.
